Atelier HOKO
Science of Secondary: Apple
Singapore, 2013
Self-published, Softcover 44pp

175 x 250 mm

With 'Apple' as the subject of the first publication from the research programme 'Science of the Secondary', Atelier HOKO presents an inquiry into our behaviours and experiences observed through our interaction with the humble fruit. From the very moment we set our eyes on the apples that are displayed in the fruit stall to the strangely familiar memory of an apple within us, this book offers an alternative insight into things that are not yet discovered…

About The Artist

Atelier HOKO (2009) is an independent research lab focusing on investigations towards material and immaterial conditions that make up our experience of the everyday. The programme is developed in response to questions on how the role and practice of design today can move beyond its perceived perimeters. The atelier hopes to cultivate an open-ness and ability to un-know, bringing about a heightened curiosity towards all phenomena which can lead to potential applications within the creative field. Part of design studio, HOKO founded in 2002 by Alvin Ho and Clara Koh.

THEBOOKSHOP
by THEBOOKSHOW

THEBOOKSHOW is a Singapore-based initiative that began in 2014. It aims to act as a platform for aspiring artists to showcase books conceived out of passion. Through the use of the book, a basic and familiar medium, THEBOOKSHOW advances towards being a mediator between the art world and the general public. Our hope is to bring a renewed perspective upon our eyes. We believe very much in challenging the medium - moving away from the conventional form that the book takes. In time, we hope to build a substantial database advocating that the book form is an art in and of itself.
